Reach in Education

PUPIL PSYCHOTHERAPY | PASTORAL TEAM SUPERVISION |

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS TRAINING | STAFF DROP-IN SURGERIES | PARENT PARTNERSHIP

Reach in Education began life at Firbeck Academy in Nottingham and expanded into Portland Spencer Academy, Albany Junior School and Westglade Primary School.  Our individual psychotherapists have delivered psychotherapy services in Dalestorth Primary and Nursery School, Forest Fields Primary School, Gartree High School, Humberstone Junior Academy, Ingelhurst Infant School in Leicester and Derby Cathedral School.

The team also have experience of delivering psychotherapy within HE counselling services in Leicester at 20/20 College, and Leicester, De Montfort and Sheffield Hallam universities, student mentoring on the MSc in Integrative Counselling at University of Derby, teaching on the MA in Counselling Children and Young People, and the MA in Trauma Studies at the University of Nottingham. The Reach have particular expertise in working with Looked After Children, Suicide States, those with SEND, EHCPs and behavioural difficulties. We make a significant contribution to safeguarding and follow up. Our service is effective in improving attendance and school engagement. With the well documented mental health crisis in children and young people, with NHS psychotherapy waiting lists in the region currently getting longer, with CAMHS overwhelmed, having the Reach as an in-house school psychotherapy service affords direct access to a team of experienced mental health practitioners.

Model

The Reach advocate a team approach as optimal. This allows for the delivery of a comprehensive service where both the child/young person and their parent/carer can be worked with. This also allows for the delivery of group work. Further, with this model we can offer pastoral team supervision in an effort to extend the therapeutic mileu across the school, staff drop-in surgeries where concerning children/young people can be discussed in greater detail, and behavioural approaches offered, and whole school mental health training. We can offer up to 3 psychotherapists working as a team in schools.
